6. Baduk Tournaments in Korea

At the time of writing in 2000, the professional Baduk community is very active. There are many sponsors for the 15 KBA tournaments. The KBA also arranges a special tournament/league for professional grading, continuing throughout the year.
There are two principal tournament systems. One system has a champion who plays one successful challenger for a title; in the other system all players must start from scratch. Then, in both cases, there are three possible types of system to find the challenger or the finalists: regular knockout, all-play-all leagues and winner-stays-on (continue until loss). Korea leads the professional Baduk world by organizing the most international events, including the Samsung Cup, LG Cup, Hung Chang Cup and Nong Sim Cup, amongst others.
There are other annual events, co-organized with China and Japan, such as the TV Asian Quickplay Championship and many friendly events.
