5. The Rules of Korea Baduk
 
Section 1. General Rules (Article 1, 2, 3, 4)

Article 1. The Definition of Baduk

Baduk is a territorial game which comprises of two opponents (Black and White) who place their respective stones on the board at the intersections, created by linear markings on the board.

Article 2. The Equipment of Baduk

1) Stones : These are generally Black and White glass beads that are used to surround territory and capture the opponent's stones. In a Baduk set, there are usually 181 Black stones and 180 White stones.
2) Baduk Board : A Baduk Board is a 19 x 19 grid, the dimensions of the board are 42.5cm in width and 45.5cm in length, and generally made of wood (Figure 1)

Article 3. Kisa

Kisa are the people who play Baduk. Kisa can be either professional or amateur. The professionals have gained a KBA qualification, whilst amateur players also receive gup (kyu) and dan grades from the KBA. The professional players enter as 1 dan and can move up to 9 dan (which is the top level). Amateru players receive gup or dan grades depending on their strength.

Article 4. Daeguk

Daeguk is to play a game. The games organized by the KBA are official Daeguk. The ideal Daeguk is an even game, but amateur games often involve a handicap.
