The Ten Most Important Events in 20th Century Baduk

5. The Founding of the Japanese Baduk Association (Nihon Ki-in)

Okura proposed the unification of the Baduk community in May 1924, and started the Japanese Baduk Association which still exists today two months later. In October, new Dum rules were announced, and the monthly magazine 'Kido' was published.
Shusai ceded the name of Honinbo to the Japanese Baduk Association in 1939, allowed the opening competition for the title of Honinbo, and retired. Thus he ended his career as a bridge between historical periods.
No one can deny that Japanese Baduk Association played the central role in international Baduk and helped it to grow. The Japanese Baduk Association definitely deserves congratulations for its kindness in providing a fertile growing field not only for Japanese, but also for young Korean and Chinese players.
Also the fact that Baduk is now deeply rooted in America and Europe, and has international status as a game is mainly the contribution of the Japanese Baduk Association. It deserves high honor for these contributions.
