The Ten Most Influential People in Baduk History

10. Lee Chang-ho, Mozart of Baduk

Lee Chang-ho 9-dan is largely responsible for this state of affairs. The strong belief in Lee Chang-ho makes them just copy and learn with no doubt. In reality, he made many new theories with his colleagues and they are popularly known as "Korean style."
Korean style is popular not only in the triad of major Baduk competitions of Japan, but also in the pro Baduk competitions of China. Korea, who has been called "strong in Baduk but containing no Baduk culture", is now proudly represented by "Korean style".
I remember Lee Chang-ho, walking slowly down the street of Gwanchul-dong, earning titles one by one and eating chocolate. He was a little fat and his eyes look dull, but once he gets into the match, he is wise in patience and has enormous strength. So he finally caught up with Cho Hoon-hyun, whose strength is like electricity.

He became world champ at the age of 17, the youngest ever

How could Lee Chang-ho triumph over fast players with his slow style? How did he manage his mind control? I am still so curious about it. Lee Chang-ho became the national champion at the age of 14 and world champion at the age of 17.
He set so many records and earned the nickname called "record maker". People who believed that Baduk is only learned from life and philosophy were amazed. People were startled that a 14-year-old could attain the skills of a champion player.
But now, no one says so. Lee Chang-ho has been playing Baduk with his inborn talent just like Mozart in music, and became the world's best player, with amazing concentration and unlimited effort.
He did not only change the history of Baduk but also made today's people wonder and think about, "Is it really right to run this fast?" Lee Chang-ho, who is spotlighted at the end of 20th century, is philosophical in that regard.
