9. Takemiya, a Pioneer in the Center of the Board
 
  Let's think about this. The time capsule is opened several hundred years from today. If we assume that Baduk is still played at the time, then who will still be remembered among those Baduk players of 20th century? Will it be Wu Qingyuan, Baduk emperor, Cho Hoon-hyun, or the genius, Lee Chang-ho?
I personally believe that it will be Takemiya. The 20th century was the time of idiosyncratic styles of Baduk. In addition to that, there were enormous giants such as Sakada and Cho Chi-hoon.
Among them, Takemiya, who maintained the only truly universal style, will surely attract the generations to come with his own unique world view. Some people may not agree with my choice of Takemiya as a Baduk most valuable player of the 20th century. But wouldn't it be Takemiya if the most memorable is chosen?
The coming generations will certainly value him as a bold explorer, like Columbus.

The center of the Baduk board was the last uncharted territory. Its mysteries had to be unraveled sometime, somehow. There is an old saying in Baduk that 'the true strength of a player is shown in the center.'
Of course it may no longer be said a century from now; who can foresee the changes in Baduk in the next hundred years? But thinking of it with Takemiya in mind, doesn't it touch your heart?
Takemiya Masaki 9-dan. His way to play Baduk can be said to be a universal style, and universal style is Takemiya himself. One can think of one without the other no more than one can think of fish without the sea.
There were actually a number of players who were attached to a universal style of Baduk. 20 years earlier than Takemiya, Korean player Kang Chul-min 8-dan, who is the true originator of universal style, was already insisting on making strength in the center of the board, followed by Cho Dae-hyun 9-dan who was also fond of universal style
